We got to meet Austyn while on maternity leave! Shannon (Austyn’s mom) is my coworker and we went through pregnancy together with due dates only 10 days apart.

We wanted to do something fun with Grant so we took him bowling and he loved it! He didn’t understand the concept of taking turns so we just let him play for us as well. ;-D
When I took Blake in for his appointment to discuss his colic, our doctor noticed his very noticeable veins in this abdomen. Initially he wasn’t concerned but he called me that night after talking to a GI doctor and thought we need to get an ultrasound. There is potential that he has portal hypertension and he wants to rule it out. We got that done a few days later and thankfully, the results came back normal. He veins were just noticeable because he was so small with very little fat on him to cover them up.
This year for Halloween, Nana so graciously offered to watch Blake and hand out candy at our house so we could take Grant around the neighborhood. His favorite thing of all times right now is trains and Thomas, so of course, he dressed up as Thomas! He was the cutest Thomas I have ever seen.
Blake has been so fussy and colicky since birth. I have been googling (against my better judgement) his symptoms to see if I can figure out why he is like this. I know people say this can be normal for a newborn during the 4th trimester but I just have this mothering instinct that something is wrong. When he cries he acts like he is in pain. Finally I came across a post explaining most of Blake’s symptoms as caused by a tongue tie. I was so excited and could not wait to get into a doctor and see if this would help. I called and scheduled an appointment with an ENT doctor and got in the next day. Dr Stevenson said that he did have a tongue tie. It can be controversial about cutting the tongue tie but he said he has had his share of nursing struggles with his wife and he feels anything that can help with nursing the better.
Blake started smiling this month and it makes my heart so happy to see those smiles. Our blurry first smile picture!

Grant has had a little bit of a transition with Blake and it has been shown by acting out at daycare. We have spoken with the teachers and we know it is due to the new addition to our family, so we are just trying to add more one on one time with him and lots of love and snuggles! During one of his moments of rebellion at daycare Grant started a food fight. While we don’t think his behavior is appropriate, we thought this was hilarious!!
Grant loves his brother in short spurts. It lasts only a few seconds and he is over his brother.
I have gone to two lactation appointments so far to help with nursing Blake. He cries after I feed him often so I wanted to make sure he was getting enough milk. Honestly, Blake still cries ALL the time so this is another way to rule out the reason for so many tears. We weighed Blake before and after a feeding and she said he was getting enough so that put me at ease. She gave me a lot of information to help with

When I took Blake in to the doctor to discuss his colic, the doctor noticed his prominent veins in his stomach. We got that done a few days later and thankfully, it came back normal. His veins were so visible because he was so small with very little fat on him.
